HIT Participates in the 2008 MSU Student Food Drive

MSU Health Information Technology is proud to do our part in giving back to the MSU Family, and we want to give a little extra this holiday season. Each of us understands the difficulties faced due to rising costs in every aspect of our lives including fuel, heating, water, and even food. No one should have to forego meals in order to meet other expenses. This is our opportunity to give back to our community and to those who ensure our own livelihoods.

The MSU Student Food Bank is the only known food bank in the nation that is run by students, for students, and has assisted MSU students in need since 1993. The Food Bank has a unique relationship with the American Red Cross that allows them to purchase food at a significantly reduced price, averaging $0.38 per pound, an 80% savings compared to the national wholesale cost of food.

To achieve our goal of helping this worthy cause, we have started a friendly food-drive competition within the department. Our staff has been divided up into four teams, each of which will strive to collect as many donations of food and/or money as possible. The entire staff is excited about this opportunity to help the community as well as to get out among the community in our collection efforts.

A very wise man once said “It is better to give than to receive”. There are many blessings associated with giving, so let us give where it can help the most.
